Taiwan’s Baseball was great, and how it is now?

Do you still remember that Chinese Taipei Team won our first gold in Doha? It was such a glorious time. So many people felt happy and were immersed in the victory. However, our team didn’t do well in recent matches. People then became distrustful to our team. They doubted the team and made a mock of them. Few people still believed that Chinese Taipei would win. Yet in the past, baseball was more popular in Taiwan than nowadays. There were six teams in CPBL-Chinese Professional Baseball League. People were eager to go to court and watch the game. Every match could affect audience a lot. After games, newspaper would report it and consider it as important issue. People cared baseball and liked baseball. They enjoyed it, and even felt proud of it. Chinese Taipei Team often did well in international baseball games. Taiwanese watched games and celebrated our victories. Those times were all good memories.

However, during two years, the situation has changed. Our team turns to lose more matches. We are losing our advantage among Asia. It is not good news to hear about. Yet it is true. We could compete with the best teams before. But now we have difficulty in facing teams which were considered inferior to ours. At the same time, Japan and Korea are still making great progress. Taking the two countries for example, we can find that their government devoted to support their teams. Therefore their teams have no need to worry about money and other trivial matters. The governments have done it already. The only thing teams had to do is concentrating on matches. We are sure that there are still many good baseball players in Taiwan, but what we need is more support from government. We need discipline, investment, and outstanding couches to make our team a better and more powerful team. If we can fulfill those expectations, then we could succeed. We can enjoy the graceful victory again!

The extra burden of Taiwan’s young students

The extra burden of Taiwan’s young students

Taipei is the capital and most prosperous city of Taiwan. There is a special phenomenon in this city. From Monday to Friday, people can see many young students come to here at afternoon. They come for cram schools. Near the train station many cram schools have been set there. Because of the convenient traffic, the place is a business metropolis. However, most students are here not fun. In fact, they are going to make additional efforts.
Those teenagers wear their uniforms, packing their heavy stuffs in the bags, and go to their additional class just right after school. As a matter of fact, students in Taiwan already stay longer in school than other countries’ students. However, since most of them are eager to attend good college, they have to get higher grades at the examination. Those students come to cram school, and always look so tired. They spare no time for other activities, because they can’t. This phenomenon shows not only a special scene in this city, but also the problems in Taiwan’s school system. Does our school education not good enough for students? Dose there is something wrong of our way of teaching? Those cram schools’ existences remind us of those questions.
